In celebration of World Breastfeeding Month, Community Resource Project (CRP) WIC will host our 18th Annual Breastfeeding Celebration, “Breastfeeding: A Mother’s Gift to Herself, Her Baby and the Earth” on Friday, August 4, 2017, honoring over 150 breastfeeding mothers for their commitment to provide the best possible nutrition for their families. The one-day event, will take place at our 2143 Hurley Way location and feature:
The goal of the Breastfeeding Celebration event and other activities is to acknowledge and congratulate our breastfeeding mothers and to provide education and support for their continued breastfeeding success. This along with our year-round breastfeeding support services work toward the U.S. Healthy People 2020 goal to improve the health and well-being of children through increased breastfeeding rates.
Breastfeeding improves the health, development and survival of women, infants and children worldwide. Breastfeeding is a great equalizer in health. Regardless of income status, when infants are breastfed, childhood illnesses such as ear infection and colds are less frequent and less severe. Breastfeeding also reduces the risk of chronic diseases including asthma, obesity diabetes, and leukemia. Exclusive breastfeeding is also a strong indicator for performing well in school. When women breastfeed, they recover faster after childbirth and have a reduced risk of both breast and ovarian cancers, heart disease and osteoporosis.
